If you want to engage in organic farming and place the products to the market as ecological, then you must be entered in the Register of operator sin organic production (Upisnik subjekata u ekološkoj proizvodnji) and your production needs to be under expert control in accordance with Article 28, paragraph 1 of Council Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 of 28 June 2007 on organic production and labelling of organic products.

Expert control is required at least once a year and it is carried out by the inspection body authorized by the ministry. After the controlling body conduct its first control and deliver the minutes of the first expert control, the application for registration is submitted to the Agency for Payments in Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development (a subsidiary of the Agency).

The application form for admission is given in Annex II. Rules on organic production (Official Gazette no. 19/16). Addition to the application must be accompanied by: the minutes of the expert supervision of the authorized control body and stamp duty - 70.00 HRK. Based on the submitted documentation, the Agency for Payments in Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development shall issue a decision on registration in the Register of operators in organic production. This is followed by issuing a certificate by the competent control body.

The legislative framework for the development of organic agriculture is made up of national rules and regulations of the European Union. National regulations include the Agriculture Act (Official Gazette no. 30/15) and the Rules on organic production ( "Official Gazette" no. 19/16), while EU law include Council Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 on organic production and labelling of organic products (OJ L 189, 20.7.2007), Commission Regulation (EC) no. 889/2008 of 5 September 2008 on detailed rules for the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 on organic production and labelling of organic products with regard to organic production, labelling and professional control (OJ L 250, 18 9th 2008) / consolidated text by 01 January 2015 and Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1235/2008 of 8 December 2008 on detailed rules for the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 with regard to the arrangements for imports of organic products from third countries / revised text to the 1st January 2015 and the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2016/459 of 18 March 2016 amending Regulation (EC) No. 1235/2008 on the detailed rules for the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 with regard to the arrangements for imports of organic products from third countries.
